RANKING OF INDIAN UNIVERSITIES

An extensive, high-quality network of universities is an essential building block for any country that aspires to be an economic power- house. For India, which fashions itself as a knowledge economy, such a network is even more critical. On evidence, the country is still short of a world-class universities system. One way to improve is to compete.

Unlike firms, whose performance can be assessed by looking at quantitative variables like revenue and profit, measuring relative success of educational institutions is much harder. The India Today-Nielsen ranking of India's top universities, now in its second edition, is an attempt to assess the relative standards of post-graduate educational institutions.

As in all such rankings, there is an element of subjectivity involved, which will leave some happier than others. The top five universities from 2010 continue to be the top five in 2011, with one change: Delhi University, number 3 last year, moves into the top slot, exchanging ranks with Banaras Hindu University. Jawaharlal Nehru University, University of Calcutta and University of Madras remain number 2, 4 and 5 respectively.

GENERAL QUESTIONS ASKED IN AN INTERVIEW

If you are going to appear for a personal interview, following are some of the most expected questions you will be asked. Although these are simple and straight questions yet the way you answer them says a lot about your appropriateness for the position.
While most of the times we talk about how one should answer the questions in a personal interview.

The right answer to a question is absolutely dependent on the situation and cannot be carved in stone but knowing the right and wrong approach to answer these questions will help you in dealing with the situation. This article tells you the wrong/ right approach to answer some of the most frequently asked tricky questions:

1. Why does this role interest you? Or why have you applied for this job?

Wrong approach: This role interests me because I believe it will offer me a lot of challenges
which I love to face and I'll get to learn a lot in this role & progress in my career.

Right approach: Rather than discussing about what the job can do for you, match your skills,
experience and personal qualities with the requirements of the job and tell the interviewer that
since you have all these qualities, you have applied for this position.

2. What is your greatest weakness?

Wrong approach -1: I don't have any weakness.

Wrong approach 2: I can't take pressure (if you have applied for a position where you know
pressure is always going to exist, for e.g. if you have applied for a position in sales)

Renaming a file in c

 In this post we will find how to rename and move a file in the same drive using c language....
This can be done in c using the rename() function..The prototype of rename is:

int rename(const *char oldname,const *char newname);
On sucess--it returns 0,
On error---it returns -1;

Let us take an example:

#include <stdio.h>
#include<conio.h>
#include<errno.h>
int main(void)
{
   char oldname[80], newname[80];
   int i;
   clrscr();
   printf("Enter File to rename: ");
   gets(oldname);
   printf("\nEnter New name: ");
   gets(newname);
   i=rename(oldname, newname);

10 tips to neutralise your accent | improve the way you speak English

Many deserving candidates lose out on job opportunities because of their vernacular accent.
Can I 'neutralise' my accent?
Yes, you can. All you need to do is train yourself to speak English as comfortably and perfectly as you speak your mother tongue.

How do you train yourself? By inculcating certain practices in your daily lifestyle. These will get you closer to sounding like a native English speaker and equip you with a global accent and you will speak not American or British English, but correct English.This is the first step to learn any other accent, be it American or British or Australian.

i. Observe the mouth movements of those who speak English well and try to imitate them.
When you are watching television, observe the mouth movements of the speakers. Repeat what they are saying, while imitating the intonation and rhythm of their speech.

ii. Until you learn the correct intonation and rhythm of English, slow your speech down.
If you speak too quickly, and with the wrong intonation and rhythm, native speakers will have a hard time understanding you.
Don't worry about your listener getting impatient with your slow speech -- it is more important that everything you say be understood.

iii.
Listen to the 'music' of English.
  Do not use the 'music' of your native language when you speak English. Each language has its own way of 'singing'.

iv. Use the dictionary.
Try and familiarise yourself with the phonetic symbols of your dictionary. Look up the correct pronunciation of words that are hard for you to say.

Interview Preparation tips

Interviews are designed to see if you are a good fit for the organization. Employers are hoping that in the span of one or two hours they can get a glimpse of how you will fit in with the company for years to come. They know that you are a good candidate, but they are looking for someone that is a great candidate. What separates a good candidate from a great candidate in the interview?

  • Is it the personality of the applicant?
  • Is it your previous work experience?
  • Is it your education and intelligence?
The truth is that succeeding in an interview is largely the result of interview preparation. By preparing for the interview, you are able to answer questions confidently, provide responses that show a hard working character, and tailor your answers in a way that will impress the company. Interviews are supposed to be an opportunity for the company to get an idea of your skills, but the reality is that interviews are a test of your ability to prepare.
How to Prepare for an Interview
There are a variety of steps you need to take to prepare for the interview. You cannot prepare too much. Preparation provides you with a number of advantages that you will have over the other applicants. These advantages will ensure that you stand out as a candidate and truly impress your interviews.
